Wine Delivery charges

Where we can we have quoted merchant delivery charges -  this is based on shipping one case of 12 bottles to a UK mainland address outside any local delvery area (which the merchant defines.)

Deliveries locally will often be cheaper or free, as will orders over a specific order value.

Deliveries to Highlands and Islands usually attract a higher charge reflecting the increased cost of shipping.

Hence the charge shown is merely an indication – you will need to check with the merchant and the charge will depend on the order size (number of bottles/value).

Also note that some carriers will not deliver if there is nobody available to sign for the wine on arrrival.

A few merchants may have their own transport, but for most they will incur a charge from a courier. This is a neccessary evil and merchants will need to recover this cost either by passing it on to the customer direct or by reflecting it in the price of the bottle/case. Often courier delivery also incurs additional packaging costs as most wine boxes are unlikely to be able to withstand the rough and frequent handling which modern delivery systems inflict.

Delivery Charges vary significantly between merchants from  free upwards – but this additional charge needs to be taken into account to determine value for money.

Breakages in transit do happen – always be sure to contact the merchant immediately if there is any problem.
