NZ wine maker tasting in the Cotswolds

bennetts fine wines logoPaul Brajkovich from Kumeu River vineyard near Auckland on New Zealand’s North Island will be hosting a dinner at Cotswold House Hotel in Chipping  Campden (Gloucestershire)  on Friday October 30 2009 (almost

sold out) and will also be presenting a tasting of the 2007’s in Bennets Wine Merchant’s shop also in Chipping Campden  on Saturday 31 Octoner 2009 from 10.0am – 12.00 noon.

Kumeu River is now widely recognised as one of the world’s leading producers of quality white wines.  No vintage  of  the ‘Estate’ or ‘single vineyard’ Chardonnays has ever scored less than 90 in the Wine Spectator reviews. I can think of no other New World Chardonnay that could make such a claim. In addition to ‘Maté’s’ Chardonnay, which already has an international reputation (highlighted by the Wine Advocate awarding the 2006 vintage 95 points), we have their other two ‘single vineyard’ Chardonnays, which were released for the first time in the 2006 vintage, ‘Hunting Hill’ and ‘Coddington’. Both wines received great critical acclaim in their debut vintages, with ‘Coddington’ receiving 93 points from Robert Parker and ‘Hunting Hill’ 91, and they have received even higher scores in the 2007 vintage. The regular (now labeled ‘Estate’) Chardonnay is as brilliant as ever and, finally, for more everyday drinking do consider purchasing the Village Chardonnay which Influential US wine writer Robert Whitley has described as “the world’s finest Chardonnay for the money.” Alongside these superb wines, we are also pleased to offer their outstanding Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and two Pinot Noirs, the quality of which increase with every vintage.
