The Independent newspaper (Sat 16 Dec 06) has a weekly “50 best….” section in the magazine, and this time it’s 50 Best Wines. Not really sure what criteria they use, but it is interesting neverthless, especially when you find lesser known wines rather than the usual suspects.
Amongst these are the 2004 Yalumba Wrattonbully Botytis Viognier from Philglas and Swiggot; the 2005 Fleur d’Eglantine, Chateau Mourgues du Gres rosé from the Costières de Nimes (Gauntleys of Nottingham); a 2003 Antiyal red from Chile’s Maipo Valley – a unique blend of Caramanère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from Adnams; and M&S’s Côtes de St Mont Blanc from SouthWest France – a delightful blend of those old favourites – Gros Manseng, Petit Courbu and Arrufiac – “fine fresh peachy fruit quality and classic southwestern bite and tang to the finish!“
