Australia is launching a major campaign to get its wines better known in the UK with G’day UK 2009 this summer.
Discover Australia through its food and wine – the diversity available throughout Australia both on land and sea across the regions makes food and drink a serious passion for Australians and there is an abundance to be discovered now in the UK.
Australia does offer a huge variety of climates and “terroirs” and is so much more than those gloriously rich Shiraz/Syrahs. Australia’s first vineyards were planted in 1788 in a small area near the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Today you will find vineyards throughout all 62 designated wine regions totalling 170,000 hectares. As an example at the other end of the scale, Tasmania has a much more temperate climate and produces great Pinot Noir.
Central to this campaign will be Selfidges London store on Oxford Street from 22 June to 5 July 2009.
Visitors to Selfridges’ Wonderbar will have the opportunity to sample premium Australian wines through the bar’s innovative enomatic machines which offer a wide range of wines by the glass,
For shoppers looking for a bite to eat, Michelin-starred chefs Shane Osborn & Brett Graham will be creating an Australian-themed food & wine menu exclusively for the Selfridges Gallery Restaurant using produce that will be available in the Selfridges Food Hall to purchase. There will also be exclusive promotions and sampling opportunities on selected Australian produce within the Food Hall giving customers even more reason to ‘Go Australian’.
