Yamas Wines Limited has been established to allow wine lovers everywhere the chance to select and sample a wide range of Greek wines, reflecting the diverse nature of Modern Greek viticulture. Greek wine is unique, owing to the country’s wide range of indigenous grape varieties, as well as its diverse climate and topography. The wines of each region offer unique characteristics not found anywhere else in the world.

The inspiration to create Yamas wines initiated from our love of Greece and the limited availability of Greek wines in Britain. The objective of the company is to offer a hassle free way to buy Greek wine and allow others to discover the ‘old world’ of wine.

Probably most of us experience Greece by way of the islands, but a large part of Greece is on the mainland with fertile valleys and mountains – so an understanding of the different regions is helpful – and Yamas Wines offer a guide on their website. Familiar grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc  and Cabernet Sauvignon feature, but also less familiae indigenous varieties such as Mavrodaphne,Agiorgitiko and Assyrtiko are to be discovered. Then there are Retsina and sweet wines such as Muscat.

The logic should be that Greece must be able to produce good wines – they have an ancient tradition of wine making which they spread throughout the western World – they have a climate which is suitable and a wide variety of soils and microclimates. And their economy needs their support at the moment!!
